Birds

Birds are a diverse group of animals that have adapted to live in almost every environment on Earth. They are warm-blooded vertebrates, characterized by their feathers, toothless beaked jaws, and the laying of hard-shelled eggs. Birds come in a variety of shapes and sizes, from the tiny hummingbird to the massive ostrich. They can fly, run, jump, swim and dive. Some species have lost the ability to fly but retained their wings for gliding or display purposes. Birds play an important role in our ecosystems as pollinators, seed dispersers and predators of insects.
